Sending revenge pornography is a criminal offence but the Law Commission is to consider the granting of automatic anonymity to victims as is the case for sexual offences.  The Law Commission will also review cases of deep fake pornography where a person’s face is superimposed on to pornographic photos or videos.

The Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright has voiced his concerns that “Too many young people are falling victim to coordinated abuse online or the trauma of having their private and sexual images shared.  That’s not the online world I want our children to grow up in”.  Mr Wright has also put together plans to place a new duty of care on online platforms towards their users which would be overseen by an independent regulator with powers of enforcement.  The review which is due to start in July will take two years to conclude.
